Christmas is an important time in our school calendar as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is also an important time for our charity and PTA fundraising. This post provides a little information about a busy month ahead.
SANTA RUN
On Friday 1 December we are taking part in the Daily Mile
Santa Run to help raise funds for our chosen Christmas
charities:
The RVH Liver Group and The Heartbeat Foundation.
We are asking the children to come to school dressed in Christmas jumpers, or as Santas or elves, or reindeer or anything Christmassy. At 10.00am the whole school (inc. Nursery) will complete a daily mile (walk or jog) around the grounds of the Community Centre. Parents and family are welcome to join us.
We are also asking each child to bring a small donation towards our Christmas charities.
WE NEED YOUR HELP ....
We would ask parents if they can help us in any of the following ways:
• Ballot Prizes for our Christmas Draw
Do you have contacts with local businesses or family members who might provide a prize?
• Christmas hamper items
• Pre-loved toys, games, jigsaws, and children’s books.
Must be in very good condition – these will be offered on sale to parents prior to the sale – more info to follow.
(Please send items into school by Thursday 30 November)

To ease congestion, we will be entering the main hall via the emergency exit doors and not the main entrance.
There will be opportunity for the children to visit Santa and to have their face and nails painted, tattoos etc. Santa’s Grotto will be upstairs, and tea and coffee will be available in the conference room downstairs.
Please note visits to Santa (£5) should be pre-booked using the booking slip and returned to school asap with payment. This price includes visit to Santa’s Grotto, photograph, and selection box.
After School Club is available on the 8th. Permission must be received for ASC leaders to take ASC children to the Christmas Fair.

All teaching and headteacher unions are taking strike action on Wednesday 29 November. As a result, school will be closed until 12 noon.
Pupils may arrive between midday and 12.15 pm. School meals will be available. Pupils who are unable to attend school in the afternoon will be marked present.
Nursery will be closed on the 29th, however, After School Club will be available from midday for registered nursery pupils.
We understand the inconvenience that strike action brings to our school families, however, all previous actions short of striking have failed to improve salaries and working conditions for the teaching profession. Salaries have now fallen by upwards of 30% over the last decade while expectations placed upon staff by the Education Authority and Department for Education and other agencies have increased dramatically.
We do not take this action lightly but can no longer accept a situation where Northern Ireland teaching salaries are well below all of the other UK regions and 12% below the salaries of their counterparts in Scotland.
I provide this information by way of a brief explanation as to why we feel it necessary to take strike action.
PTA Wine 🍷 and Cheese 🧀 Quiz Night raising funds for our wee school and nursery .
Thank you to all who donated wine and cheese and who bought tickets 🎟 for this event and to everyone who worked behind the scenes to prepare the nibbles and set up the room.
We had a great wee crowd and the crack was mighty.
Big shout out to quiz master and DJ Sam Hand and his road manager, Susan Welsh - great teamwork.
Thank you for your support 🙏🏼
This Christmas instead of our usual Shoebox Appeal we are asking our school community to support the REACHING OUT Christmas Appeal.

THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE xxx
Dear Parents,
The purpose of this communication is to give our school community advance notification of industrial action in the form of a strike, by members of non-teaching staff in our school and in schools across Northern Ireland.
This strike action will take effect on Thursday 16 November.
Consequently, school will be closed for two hours next Thursday morning and will reopen at 11.00am. Children should arrive between 11.00 and 11.15 am, when lessons will commence.
Nursery will be closed next Thursday, however nursery children who normally attend After School Club may arrive at 11.00am.
School meals will be available next Thursday.
Our non-teaching staff are vital to the life of our school and it is only with their support and commitment that our school can operate safely and effectively.
We whole-heartedly support their call for fair remuneration and fair contracts.
Kind regards,
R Greer
