  • Out With the Old in With the New

    Sat 30 Oct 2021

Our old school pond has served us well over the last 12 or so years. Frogs galore and extraordinary pond life has flourished in its tranquil waters.

But, as you can see the railway sleepers were beginning to rot and belly and it’s time for a makeover.

You can see our progress below.

Our Yr7s helped move some of the water from our old pond into barrels this afternoon.

We are looking forward to having a new pond installed over half term and plan to use most of the water and plants from our existing pond to help preserve the microsystem that has developed over the last 10 years.

  • The Power of Yet

    Thu 21 Oct 2021

An itty bitty word is making big waves at Moneyrea. The word I’m talking about is ‘YET’. This is a superhero word and we are helping to establish it into our children’s mindset through the use of a YETI character.

This week our children have been choosing a name for our YETI character and we have three winners in each of our Key Stages.

The winning names were BIBO (Breathe In Breathe Out), Not Yeti, and Yoda. Our winners are pictured below with their prizes.

The overall winner was BIBO (Breathe In Breathe Out), which also reminds us that we can relax our minds and focus our thoughts by practising some simple calming, breathing exercises.

Carol Dweck coined the phrase ‘the power of yet’ in her awesome book, ‘Mindset’.

YET! It’s a powerful little word packing a great, big punch!

    The Power Of Yet

So what is ‘the power of yet’?

At Moneyrea we are promoting and nurturing a  growth mindset where our children understand and accept that we ALL have the ability and power to improve.

Having a ‘can-do’ attitude will make our children unstoppable.

We use the ‘power of yet’ in our thoughts and sentences when we use the word ‘can’t’. All we do is add the word ‘yet’ on to the word can’t and that's the negative thought transformed into a positive.

    I can’t ride a bike … yet.

    I can’t bake a cake … yet.

    I can’t tap dance … yet.

See how that works? It’s that simple.
Soon, the children will be saying, ‘Up until now, I couldn’t fly a kite. But look how high my kite is flying now!’

Using ‘yet’ brings hope. It ignites a ‘can-do’ attitude! It creates an encouraging environment. But it isn’t all roses … you have to be willing to learn from your mistakes … to persevere!!

It requires patience and it requires belief in yourself. We’re all on a learning journey and there’s no room to give up!

Teaching your children how powerful this tiny little word can be will go a long way to moulding the superheroes you want to send out into the world.

So start adding ‘yet’ to ‘can’t’ and watch the magic unfold.

Persistence and “The Power of Yet”

What if when a baby tried to walk it just toppled over and never tried again? No one would ever learn!

Babies are the best at ‘yet’. They’re perfect examples of what’s possible with a good attitude and a little persistence.

Learn from babies. Baby steps. The power of yet is REAL!
