  • Easter Fun in the Sun (Part ll)

    Fri 26 Mar 2021

    Lots of eggs-ertion around the eggs-terior of Moneyrea PS today as hundreds of eggs-ultant children hunted for those elusive hidden eggs. Some children proved to be eggs-ceedingly eggs-pert in eggs-posing the hidden chocolate spherical ellipsoids (As Nigel (Bravo Tango 9) might say.Β

    An egg-cellent time was had by all and many a sweaty globule was egg-creted in the hunt. I'm not eggs- aggerating, the egg-citement was palpable and the children and staff had a ball.

    Fri 26 Mar 2021

    Great crack 🐣 today at Moneyrea.

    The children enjoyed an egg-citing morning and as you can see from the photos many were egg-uberant and a few were egg-hausted.Β

    It was an eggs-tra special end to our first week back together.Β

    As Charles Dickens might have said, we look forward with β€˜Great Eggs-pectation’ to welcoming everyone back to school on the 12th April.Β

    Have an egg-hilarating Easter break. 🐰

    Stay safe x

  • Keeping Safe

    Thu 25 Mar 2021

    As the clocks move forward one hour this weekend and the evenings stretch and the weather warms up (hopefully), our children may be spending a little more time playing outside in the street or at the park.

    They are like hibernating squirrels and hedgehogs emerging from their winter sleep. Consequently, they may have forgotten some important stuff like keeping safe crossing the road, wearing a helmet when cycling and some basic safety rules.

    It is therefore important that we remind them of some simple rules to help keep them safe when they are out and about.

    First; establish that a stranger is just someone they haven't met before.

    Second; a trustworthy adult (stranger) would never approach a child to ask directions or for help.

    Third; not all adults are kind and helpful.

    It is okay to SHOUT 'NO' TO A STRANGER and to run to a safe place (shop, school, home, neighbour etc.)

    Our mantra at Moneyrea is:

    Never talk to a stranger;

    Never take from a stranger;

    Never go with a stranger.

    Say where you’re going;

    Say who you’re with;

    Say when you’ll be home.

    We understand that children are more often harmed by people they know, but this advice applies specifically to being out and about on their own.

    We should revisit this advice often in a non-alarming and reassuring manner.

    It is giving our children the tools to help them keep safe.

  • An Unwelcome Anniversary

    Tue 23 Mar 2021

    Today we took time out to reflect with the children about the year that is past. A year when our lives were transformed by the impact of the Corona Virus.

    Β

    We discussed how our children and families were impacted by Covid-19. The closing of shops and restaurants, churches, youth organisations, cinemas, sports' events and of course school. We remembered the events they missed at school and the birthday parties that were perhaps less extravagant than in previous years. Our children lost out on a lot.

    Β

    On the other hand, we reminded them of the positive aspects of lockdown; the new skills they learned at home, the family zoom meetings, the quizzes and the way in which they kept going and didn't give up. Our children faced two lengthy stretches of remote learning and together with the support of their mums and dads, grandparents and older siblings, kept their learning going.

    Β

    We reminded them of the amazing work of our NHS staff and how we clapped to show how much we appreciated their efforts. And of course, their teachers and all of our keyworkers who kept things going throughout the year.

    Β

    We remembered how our community pulled together during lockdown, looking after folk who were shielding or ill or unable to go to the grocery store or pharmacy.

    Β

    We noted how we have all had to change our behaviours, from handwashing to catching sneezes, social distancing to staying in bubbles and not meeting up with friends and family.

    Β

    We reminded the children that this has been an unusual time for everyone and how we have all been touched by Covid. Some adults caught Covid and had minor problems, some became really sick and a small number died as a result. We recognise that our children have not been sheltered from this information; they have followed this story, day-to-day. We also reminded them of the good news that very few children are affected by Covid, which is really quite remarkable.

    Β

    We also celebrated the hope which falling theΒ the roll-out of the vaccine has brought. We were therefore able to look forward with the children to brighter and better days aheadΒ

    and to a return to a little more normality, step by step, week-by-week.

    Β

    It has been so good to see our classrooms filled again, to hear the sound of joyful exuberance echo around our playgrounds and to see little friendships revisited.

    Β

    Long may this wave of positivity and hope continue.
