    MONEYREA PRIMARY AND NURSERY SCHOOL

    4 January 2022

    Dear Parents,

Who would have predicted back in Feb/Mar 2020 that Covid19 would still be with us? We have come a long way on a journey no one anticipated and without a blueprint to guide our steps. Sadly, some in our community lost their lives to this virus, and some suffer the daily consequences of ‘long Covid’.

As a school, we always have sought to chart a course that would achieve three goals:

    1, to keep our school community as safe as possible;

2, to keep our classrooms open; and

3, to keep our children learning and socialising together.

To date, we have achieved our goals, and are determined to continue to do so.

We understand that this pandemic has impacted every aspect of society and accept the importance of keeping schools open.

We believe we can achieve this goal if everyone in our school community plays their part.

Therefore, we need your continued support for the mitigations we continue to implement at school.

    To that end:

We will continue to operate our class bubble system, including separate eating, toileting and play times.

Pupils will continue to access the school through the external classroom doors.

We will continue to emphasise good hand and respiratory hygiene.

We will ensure good levels of ventilation. (Etta has installed new CO2 monitors in all classrooms)

We require all adults to wear facemasks on entering the school grounds

We will keep school visitors to a minimum (i.e.) contractors, EA personnel and coaches

We will require children to take LFTs from time to time as Covid cases arise in our school community

    In addition:

Children who have Covid symptoms must isolate at home and take a PCR test.

Children will be required to isolate if someone in their family home has Covid.

Children who have other illnesses such as colds, flu, vomiting, diarrhoea, etc., must not attend school until their symptoms have cleared. This has always been school policy.

Although the last three mitigations may negatively impact some families, we believe that these measures are for the greater good of our whole school community.

We aim to avoid sending entire classes home or returning to remote learning.

Where children have to isolate at home, work packs will be available for collection from the school office from their second day of absence.

I am not too fond of patronising platitudes, but sometimes they are helpful … We keep our guard up, avoid selfish actions and work together to keep school functioning as close to normal as possible.

Looking forward to the new term ahead and wishing everyone in our school family a Happy and Healthy New Year.

    R Greer

    Principal
