  • See-Saw App

    Sat 30 May 2020

    Dear Nursery - Yr5 Parents,

I hope you and your family circle are well and continue to know good health in the days ahead.

From this Monday 1 June ....

We have signed up to the Seesaw app to make it easier for parents to communicate with their children’s class teachers.

This app will enable parents to send teachers video clips, photos of art work, models, projects etc. which the children have completed during lockdown.

The teacher can then post your child’s work in the gallery on Facebook, or on the Class Pages on the website.

Each child will have a unique access code which will allow parents to forward their work.

Parents should also receive a parent link so that they can communicate with the teacher.

To get the unique code and parent link you must first email your child’s class teacher. Please don’t email before Monday.

We cannot send the logins out in a group chat as this would contravene data protection.

To access this account you should follow these steps:

    1.  Go to https://app.seesaw.me

Or, install the Seesaw Class App on an iOS or Android device.

    2. Choose “I’m a Student”.

    3. Type in your child’s unique code to access your Seesaw account.

For a parent to access their account they should follow these steps:

    1. Go to https://app.seesaw.me

Or, install the Seesaw Family App on an iOs or Android device.

    2.  Parents will be prompted to sign in or create a new account.

    3.  You will receive an email.

    4. The email will appear directly in your personal inbox.

Parents will need to choose to connect to their child’s journal.

Please be patient if there are a few teething problems with the new app.

You can of course continue to communicate with your child’s teacher via the email provided with the initial work packs.

    Best wishes,

    Roy Greer

  • Notification of Post Primary Placement Placement Letters

    Wed 27 May 2020

Post-primary school placement letters should be received on Thursday 4 June. In the event that a letter does not arrive on Thursday 4 June I may be contacted between 11.00am and 2.00pm by:

    email: rgreer448@gmail.com

    phone: 07786 547311

This year 88% of pupils across Northern Ireland have been placed at their first preference school. This leaves a significant minority of children who will be placed at a school lower on their list of preferences.

If your child is placed at a lower preference school, you may wish to make contact with the post primary school which has refused your child a place, to determine the criteria against which your child’s application was rejected.

    Admissions Helpdesk

Additional support is available from the EA Admissions Helpdesk. The Helpdesk will be in operation from 1pm to 5pm on Thursday 4 June 2020. It can be contacted on 028 9598 5595 or via email on postprimaryadmissions@eani.org.uk. Thereafter it will operate Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm.

    Unplaced Pupils Dedicated Helpline

Every year a small number of pupils are not offered a post-primary school place. A dedicated EA Helpline has been put in a place to support any parents of unplaced children and can be contacted on 028 9041 8053.

If your child is in this position, the key advice is for parents is to review the list of schools with places available, published on the EA website, and nominate further preferences as quickly as possible.

    SEN Helpdesk

The SEN Helpdesk (028 9598 5960) can provide information to parents of children with Statements of Special Educational Needs. The SEN Helpline operates Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm.

    Appeals

Independent Admissions Appeal Tribunals are established by the Education Authority to consider appeals. If your child has been refused a place in a post primary school, you can appeal the decision of the Board of Governors.

These Tribunals will decide on whether or not a school has correctly applied its admissions criteria in deciding to refuse your child admission to the school.

These Tribunals cannot uphold an appeal on any other grounds. The actual substance of the criteria cannot be challenged in the appeal tribunal.

Information which was not made available to the post-primary school at the time it was making its decisions will not be taken into account at the appeal. Click here to go to the EA website

  • Be Kind to Bees

    Mon 25 May 2020

    🐝 🐝 🐝

When you are out in the garden see if you can identify which bees 🐝 are buzzing around your flowers.

They are harvesting nectar and helping to pollinate your flowers to produce fruit.

When plants produce fruit, the seeds to produce new plants are inside.

We need lots of bees 🐝 . They do such an important job in our world, so never harm them.

Of course some bees 🐝 can sting so be careful; but they do not want to sting you. Observe them from a safe distance.

If you find a bee 🐝 lying on the ground, chances are it is exhausted. You can help this little worker by making a simple solution of granulated sugar and water (just a few drops 💧).

Bees have a very long tongue called a proboscis and you can watch the bee 🐝 drink. Hopefully this emergency treatment will revive the bee 🐝. But don’t leave the solution out as this will attract other bees for a free meal, and will upset honey production back at the hive.

Of course, one of the other great things bees 🐝 do is to produce yummy honey 🍯 .

Did you know that flavour of the honey 🍯 depends on the type of flowers 💐 in our gardens and hedgerows.

Bee numbers are falling in the UK 🇬🇧 due to a loss in habitats.

We can help our bee 🐝 population to increase by planting lots of flowering plants such as lavender, hawthorn, bluebells, crocuses and buddliea.
