  • Letter from Shelterbox

    Fri 10 Feb 2023

Dear Mr Greer and the children and staff at Moneyrea Primary and Nursery,

I hope this email finds you well!

I wanted to extend our gratitude and heartfelt thanks to you the children and staff at Moneyrea Primary and NU for supporting ShelterBox in our response to the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.

The awareness and empathy that you expressed through your reasons for wanting to support us were truly wonderful to hear. It was very moving to hear of your schools' strong ties with a school
    in Bursa,Turkey.

Our emergency response team is in Istanbul developing partnerships and working on how we can get supplies to the affected regions. There’s snow on the ground and it’s far colder where the earthquakes struck – presenting an immediate risk to life as the days pass.

ShelterBox has experience responding to earthquakes in Türkiye before, most notably the 2011 Van earthquake. We also have an ongoing programme of work supporting people displaced by conflict in Syria.

We expect items such as thermal blankets and solar lights to be needed. We are also considering tents. Providing cash assistance could be an important element to this response too – giving people who have been left with nothing the flexibility to get what they need.

It is amazing that you have already raised £964! Your support will contribute to the emergency fundraising appeal to help people affected by the earthquakes and other disasters around the world.

As well as our work in Türkiye and Syria, we are also responding to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, shelter needs in Ukraine, Pakistan and Mozambique, among several others.

We quite simply wouldn’t be able to do this without the support of people like yourself and the children and staff at your school.

    Thank you!

We’re so grateful for your support!

On behalf of all of us here at ShelterBox but, most importantly, on behalf of those who we are helping now with our emergency aid and who will help in the future- Thank you.

     With warm wishes,

    Evie

  • King for a Day

    Thu 09 Feb 2023

Thank you to the staff, pupils and parents of Moneyrea Primary and Nursery for all your kind greetings on my 60th birthday.

I was truly overwhelmed today by the surprises that unfolded throughout the day.

As King I received 8 challenges to prove my Royal credentials.

I sword ⚔️ fenced in nursery, jousted in Yr1, shot arrows in Yr2, painted a self portrait in Yr3, played charades in Yr4, made a speech in Yr5, threw axes 🪓 in Yr6 and wrote poetry in Yr7.

Added to which I enjoyed a fantastic spread at break and lunchtime and a wee spell in the stocks at pickup time.

    Thank you 🙏🏼

  • Fundraising for Turkey and Syria

    Tue 07 Feb 2023

We are fundraising to support ShelterBox, a charity working directly in the earthquake zones in Turkey and Syria.

ShelterBox provide emergency accomodation for folk who have been made homeless as a result of natural disasters.

We are partnered with a school in Turkey through our Erasmus+ project and in December 2022 hosted teachers and children from our partner school. Our Turkish friends are in great fear and anguish because of the loss of life in their homeland. Some, who visited with us, may have lost friends and family.

Please donate as much or as little as you can.

  • Safer Internet Day

    Tue 07 Feb 2023

Yr1 were learning about what the Internet is and what to do if something goes wrong. 👎

We know to go to a grown up if we see something that upsets us, and to ask if we want to use our tablet or to tell a parent if our eyes feel sore from playing on a device for too long. 📱

  • Cross Country

    Tue 07 Feb 2023

The MPS cross country team headed to Londonderry Park in Newtownards to compete in round 3 of the Flahavan's Porridge Primary School Cross Country League.

Once again the boy and girls gave it their all as they raced against 100+ runners from the County Down area.

What a way to start a Monday morning! Well done Team Moneyrea 💪
