European Day of Languages

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡©πŸ‡°πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ πŸ‡«πŸ‡· πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

26 September 2023

We didn't let the weather rain on our parade - instead we took our parade indoors and the 'crack' was mighty!

πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΈEUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES (deuxième partie) πŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡©πŸ‡°

Our celebration of European languages included a fantastic Euro-snack at breaktime, prepared by some of our PTA members.

We also enjoyed entertaining lessons in Ulster Scots delivered by Matthew Warwick from the Ulster Scots Agency.

Our bairns had great 'crack' learning some Scots' words from the 17th Century that are still in use today.

It is sad to think that many more Scots' words and phrases have been lost to the passage of time.

Test yersel on this wee list o' words:

Clabber    Glipe
Oxters       Foundered
Een             Scundered
Neb            Thran
Fernenst    Sleekit
Skitter        Blether
Thole          Loanan
Burn            Kirk
Duncher    Thon
Quare          Hallion
