Literacy

Most worksheets/activity sheets will be found in your June folder.

 

Handwriting

Weeks 1 and 2

Choose 1 page to day every day.

You will need to print the following activity sheets:

Weeks 3 and 4

Creative Writing

Remember:

  • to use word mat
  • encourage your child to sound out words
  • transfer spellings to writing

Week 1 - use the exercise book to write about the weekend or yesterday (Recount Writing),

               and draw a picture.

Week 2 - use the back page of Handa's Surprise booklet to write some sentences about the

               story.

Week  3 or 4 - Use the animal writing frame to write about your favourite zoo animal.

 

Spellings

Ensure when learning spellings that your child adheres to the 'look, say and write method'

 

Week 1 - 'ub' spelling worksheet

 

Week 2 - 'ug' spelling worksheet

 

Week 3 - 'un' spelling worksheet

 

Week 4 - pick 4 or 5 spellings and write a sentence for each one

 

Please refer to multi-sensory spelling activities in Year 2 photo gallery, for ideas to help with

learning and reinforcing spellings (ie. writing on whiteboard, writing outside with chalk, word family hunts in old magazines, annuals or comics using highlighters or markers, drawing in sand, making with small toys such as lego, beads or cubes etc.). We all learn in a variety of ways using different senses.

 

High Frequency Words

Complete 1 cut and paste sheet each week. These will need to be printed out.

At the end of June have a check using the assessment sheet sent home. This will enable you to focus on any unknown words over the summer months.

 

Phonics

Please use the following Jolly Phonics web site and videos for introducing and teaching sounds. It will take a few minutes to load but please be patient as it is just as I would teach in class!

You will need to go right to the end for 'er' and 'ar'.

Weeks 3 and 4 - revise over all the songs and actions on the video

 

Reading

 

Guided Reading - Bug Club and Oxford Owl has ensured that your child has had the opportunity to keep reading books at their level. It is not a substitute for handling and enjoying a real book, but  hopefully it has enabled your child to continue to make progress.

 

Shared Reading - Please read the following e-books with/to your child.
